Georgia Residents Turn to Premium Air Purifiers to Address Ethylene Oxide Emissions in Their Homes

ATLANTA, Georgia – Several industrial sterilization factories located throughout portions of Atlanta’s suburbs, have come under heavy scrutiny from both citizens in nearby communities and environmental protection groups and agencies for their emission of ethylene oxide (ETO), a popular sterilization chemical, into the air. According to an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) report conducted in 2018, there were elevated cancer risks in three census tracts throughout the metro Atlanta area, including in the cities of Smyrna and Covington, the two locations where ethylene oxide sterilization factories are located. These reports have led to the concern of health risks to those communities that have been exposed to these elevated levels of ethylene oxide in their air, as citizens are now turning to premium air purifiers to address potential ethylene oxide intrusions in their home’s air

The Vice President of Customer Relations & Operations at EnviroKlenz Air Purifiers, George Negron, commented on the increasing need of air purification throughout indoor environments, especially those areas that have been plagued with this potentially toxic sterilization chemical in their air space;

“The threat of ethylene oxide creeping into the air of your home, is a hazard that for many located in areas near the Atlanta suburbs, must be prepared for – as ETO emissions continue to be a discussed risk to both air quality and individual health. While communities near Atlanta continue to learn more about the inherent risks that ethylene oxide emissions produce, homeowners have begun to take preventative measures to protect their families and their home’s air from this hazardous sterilization chemical, many through the use of premium air purifiers, like the EnviroKlenz Air Purifier.”

Ethylene oxide is a flammable, colorless gas that is used to manufacture a variety of additional chemicals that may be used in a wide range of products, including anti-freeze, textiles, and plastics. Primarily, however, ethylene oxide is used in sterilization facilities with a singular purpose of acting as the main sterilant for equipment. According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), about fifty percent of all sterile medical equipment in the United States undergoes ethylene oxide sterilization as the leading method for sterilization. Sterilization factories that focus on ethylene oxide production within their headquarters are among one of the main sources of ethylene oxide emissions into the air, and these types of facilitates are found in abundance throughout the Atlanta suburbs of Georgia, an area which is now plagued with alarming ETO levels present within their air. Those citizens living nearby these areas have begun to implement air quality control measures in their residences like air purifiers and premium HVAC filters to combat ethylene oxide emissions in their home’s air.

Air purification devices and HVAC filters traditionally utilize technologies such as carbon, ionization, and even ozone – all of which use specific mechanisms to capture and retain and/or eliminate hazardous pollutants from the indoor air. Unlike those traditional, obsolete air purification technologies, the revolutionary EnviroKlenz technology works through a completely different mechanism process that is able to effectively contain and neutralize a broad spectrum of chemical compounds and noxious odors from the air including ethylene oxide (ETO).

The EnviroKlenz technology has been effectively used to contain and neutralize ethylene oxide readily in the event of a spill or vapor release in an indoor environment, such as with the current issues afflicting many areas of Georgia. There has been research and laboratory data that illustrates the capability of the EnviroKlenz technology to initiate adsorption of ETO in a well-controlled fashion at ambient temperatures. The formulation of the EnviroKlenz technology allows for the ethylene oxide to be readily absorbed and decomposed to form a stable metal alkoxides though either a base or acid catalytic pathway.

Overall, the integration of the EnviroKlenz technology into an indoor air space has been demonstrated to provide an immediate response to contain and detoxify ethylene oxide contamination that is threating the air quality of a personal indoor environment.

About EnviroKlenz®

EnviroKlenz® is an environmentally friendly chemical and odor restoration process that is available to consumers and manufacturers across all industries. The EnviroKlenz process is a scientifically and field proven choice for the safe, rapid, convenient, and cost-effective restoration of indoor spaces from a broad spectrum of hazardous chemical compounds and other toxic vapors.

The EnviroKlenz® core chemistry (the “Product”) irreversibly captures and neutralizes a broad range of indoor air pollutants. EnviroKlenz® works by ‘destructive adsorption.’ As EnviroKlenz® comes in contact with chemical pollutants in circulating air or on surfaces of materials, the Product’s chemistry 1) irreversibly attaches to and reacts with the pollutants, and 2) destroys/neutralizes the pollutant. The irreversible result is a benign, environmentally safe byproduct and elimination of the unpleasant and potentially dangerous pollutant(s).
