Advisors Teach College Prep Class During Financial Literacy Month

With more Americans hoping to minimize future college debt obligations, college planning has become an integral component of Retirement Plans.

As future college students and their families struggle to meet upcoming college deadlines, faulty assumptions and costly mistakes can lead to overwhelming debt levels that can be nearly impossible to repay. That’s why Advisors throughout the U.S. will be teaching the LFE Institute’s new one-hour 12 Costly College Mistakes to Avoid! workshop throughout April, Financial Literacy Month, and beyond.

“The Advisors we work with have one mission when teaching this class: To prevent many of the costly mistakes that have led to $1.6 trillion in student loan debt,” states Alice Whinnery, founder and CEO of LFE Institute. “Their ultimate goal is to ensure that every dollar spent on higher education is invested wisely.”

Reuters reports that those who co-sign student loans, typically the student’s parents or grandparents, are now on the hook for nearly all new private student loans. This has led to soaring debt levels for those 50 and older, according to a recent study by AARP.

With more Americans hoping to minimize future college debt obligations, college planning has become an integral component of Retirement Plans. Helping clients avoid costly college mistakes is the first step in creating a positive long-term solution that could impact their financial lives for decades.

Financial professionals are working with local employers, banks, high schools, PTA groups, churches, associations, etc., to make this essential workshop available to families throughout their communities. In addition to live venues, due to Coronavirus concerns, they’re also offering live Web-based formats.

“Advisors today are focused on helping families prevent college mistakes that will jeopardize their retirement by encouraging them to avoid spending a dime on college, or co-signing a loan, until they attend this workshop,” reports Whinnery. “Their financial future depends on it!”
