Although Florida canceled jury and bench trials for the near term, supreme courts have eased the justice system regulations to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. This means that other criminal offenses and traffic tickets will not be automatically dismissed but will still be handled using video and voice technology.

This is to ease the justice system and get it up and running again. Most traffic and misdemeanor dockets in Broward and Miami Dade counties have already adopted this remote and video technology. According to Galanter Law, the court’s goal is to try and embrace the technology to prevent its activities from coming to a total standstill.
Galanter Law stated that the Florida Supreme Court has also issued a speedy trial where defendants are to be brought to trial in particular time duration. Galanter Law also pointed out that courts in Florida will use apps such as WebEx and Zoom in their remote operations to keep the cases moving. Although courts have restricted in-person appearances, Galanter Law stressed that they would continue to fight for the rights of Floridians.
