Regenerative Real Estate On The Rise With Latitude Growing Across North America

PORTLAND, OR  -Latitude, the world’s only regenerative real estate sales company, is growing beyond its roots in the Pacific Northwest to cities across North America. The company, brokered by eXp Realty, is helping to demystify and promote sustainable living for real estate buyers and sellers. Its goal is to use real estate as the catalyst for people and the planet to thrive.

The company’s founders, husband and wife duo Neal and Alissa Collins, are unique in that they have extensive backgrounds in both the environmental sector and the real estate industry. Before they built a real estate company in Portland, Oregon, the pair worked internationally in India and the Maldives on climate change adaptation and threatened species conservation projects.

In 2019, with nearly twenty real estate agents on roster and a portfolio of several hundred residential and commercial properties under management, Latitude was a growing independent real estate agency in Portland. Something wasn’t clicking internally for the Collinses, however. The work was devoid of the impact that they sought in their previous work in the non-profit sector. Around the same time, both sets of their parents came down with aggressive cancer. These were relatively young and healthy people who should not have been getting this kind of diagnosis.

Neal and Alissa began to research contributing causes of cancer and were mystified at what they found. They came to learn that many people’s homes — the very places that they rely upon to rest, rejuvenate, love, and raise their families — were built with materials that caused chronic long-term health issues and were environmentally harmful.

For them, it was a profound wake-up call that resonated on a deep level: health and well-being are connected with the health of the planet and people’s habitats.

“It struck us just how much potential a real estate agent has to help people live better,” says founder Alissa Collins. “From marketing properties differently using storytelling to highlight green features for sellers with unique and extraordinary properties, to demystifying sustainability from the roof to the soil, to the financing for buyers, our approach is drastically different from the normal transactional nature of real estate sales.”

When they looked around, however, they found that sustainability in real estate had become more about tech products, energy efficiency, and lots of green washing. They wanted to put the emphasis on creating healthy homes that gave back to people and the planet.

Out of that, regenerative real estate was born. That was where they knew their company, Latitude, could make a difference—by incorporating health and wellness, sustainability, community, and ecology into the counsel they provide clients. What fuels their passion is that they aren’t helping just to sell homes. They are starting a movement.

Since then, the company’s message has tapped into a growing demand not only for people looking to live more sustainably but also for agents that want a deeper purpose as well. They have a growing community of Realtors — what they call Change Agents — that are working across North America in cities like Portland; Denver; New York; Eugene; and Vancouver BC. They are helping agents combine their own passions and values of health and wellness, the environment, and sustainability with the powerful model that real estate provides.

What sets Latitude agents apart is that they are required to become Living Future Accredited with the International Living Future Institute in order to be leaders in helping transform their own communities to be socially just, culturally rich, and ecologically restorative.

“For the first time in a long time, I have hope,” founder Alissa Collins says. “Hope for our kids and future generations. Hope for our species and for biodiversity. The future is bright if we adopt a regenerative mindset. This shouldn’t be relegated to new eco-luxury developments but for all people across the globe that want to live better no matter what type of home they live in.”
