Artist As Guide Provides a Creative Approach In Beating Procrastination Blues

Pablo Picasso once said, “Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone.” In this dynamic world, getting out of procrastination is one of the hardest things to do.  Procrastination can often disguise itself as a streaming serving binge-fest, the merry-go-round of news cycles, or an endless stroll through social media land. These activities may seem like some form of being lazy or lacking self-discipline. Jenny Velarde, founder of Artist As Guide and a licensed and active psychotherapist, thinks otherwise.

With nearly a decade of experience in Drama Therapy, Jenny Velarde is familiar with the procrastination roadblock. In fact, she is a passionate expert on the complexities and nuances of chronic procrastination. Her career led her to work with hundreds of clients from all backgrounds who experienced minor to chronic procrastination. Seeing this invisible disability overwhelming people, Jenny established Artist As Guide, a virtual video toolbox, hand-crafted to vitalize our creative self.

At the crux of this movement is the usage of art as a survival tool. Throughout her entire career, she realized procrastination is what holds people back from realizing their creative fullness. It puts forward the naked truth in which there is an artist in every one of us, needing guidance to fortify. Mastering creativity not just within one’s craft but throughout one’s life can help overcome dire circumstances, including chronic procrastination.

In her written masterpiece, Jenny Velarde has debunked four key myths surrounding chronic procrastination. She tenaciously unearthed the real reasons why individuals are lured into procrastination. First, procrastination is a multifaceted phenomenon. It is an outcome of the situation; however, it is complex and nuanced. Henced, the reason may vary from person to person. Second, laziness is rarely the core of procrastination. In fact, chronic exhaustion is oftentimes at play. Third, the antithesis of procrastination is not productivity but engagement. Last, the goal is not to stop procrastination but to partner up with it. It’s when you dug deeper where you can find growth, opportunity, and creativity. Her life’s work prompts her to develop The Procrastination System, which transforms inaction to traction.

Her passion for studying procrastination has laid the groundwork for her project, Artist As Guide. Currently, she is practicing her craft at the heart of Brooklyn, the epicenter of creative individuals. She has helped many individuals be engaged with their Artist Roles. In her ten years as a psychotherapist, she has met people from all walks of life, from the survivors of the Holocaust to young people in the juvenile justice system.

Jenny Velarde has earned her Master’s in Drama Therapy at New York University. On top of it, she is a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) Registered Drama Therapist (RDT. Aside from being a psychotherapist, she is a multifaceted artist. She has played the roles of writer, director, actor, musician, filmmaker, visual artist, and designer. Her work experience in both clinical and creative settings sets her apart from the other competitors in the field.
