World Future Energy Summit to focus on the business of clean energy and sustainable development through innovation and technology

Event to take place in January 2022 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre

Hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of delegates to attend from around the globe

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – 13 April, 2021 – World Future Energy Summit, the world’s leading business event for clean energy and sustainability, returns to Abu Dhabi’s National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, hosted by Masdar, from 17-19 January 2022.

As businesses around the world start to look towards a more robust 2021, it is timely to focus on the central role of sustainable development and World Future Energy Summit is the perfect event for this approach, providing an ideal platform from which to showcase the very latest technology and innovations to transform the ways we conduct business.

Masdar’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, said: “As one of the world’s fastest-growing renewable energy companies, with a presence in more than 30 countries, Masdar’s success is built on Abu Dhabi’s commitment to investing in sustainable technology and innovation. By hosting the World Future Energy Summit as part of ADSW, we bring a world-class platform to Abu Dhabi, one where governments, researchers and innovators can determine the right polices and technologies than can best  advance the global energy transition.”

Hugh Jones, global Chief Executive Officer at Reed Exhibitions, the organiser of World Future Energy Summit 2022, commented: “As a leading global exhibitions’ producer, we are proud to run a portfolio of future energy business events. These events are specifically designed to support the global sustainability agenda to combat climate change, in-line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and COP 21 agreements.”

The event, which in 2020 hosted 34,000 attendees from 125 countries, and 840 exhibitors and brands, will feature six exhibitions and forums: Energy, Water, Solar, EcoWASTE, Smart Cities and Climate & Environment. World Future Energy Summit 2022 will also host the Climate Innovations Exchange (CLIX), which connects global start-ups with investors, and the dedicated Sustainability Business Connect programme to help connect exhibitors with qualified buyers from the Middle East and Africa who are looking for technology and services relevant to their projects.

Over the next four years, according to a recent report published by Frost and Sullivan, it is anticipated that the region will invest $182.3 billion in adding up to 57GW of clean solar and wind energy capacity, representing an 18-fold increase.1

Recent research by Moody’s Investor Service forecasts that, globally this year, the issuance of green, so-called sustainable bonds, will increase by 32% when compared to 2020, to reach a record figure of $650 billion. Assistant Vice President at Moody’s, Matthew Kuchtyak, said: “We forecast $375 billion of green bonds, $150 billion of social bonds and $125 billion of sustainability bonds in 2021,” adding that they “expect green bond issuance to jump by 39% this year as the economy continues to rebound and issuers increasingly pursue debt financing for environmentally-friendly projects.”2

The timing of World Future Energy Summit 2022 could not be better, with huge projects on the near horizon throughout the region that will take place with sustainability high on the agenda.

A summit exhibitor with a global presence is Ingeteam S.A., a specialist in state-of-the-art electric power conversion. The Ingeteam Srl Sales Director of PV and BESS, Mauro Rivola, said that World Future Energy Summit 2022 will be one of the year’s undoubted highlights. “We carry out a huge amount of work in the renewable energy sector,” he remarked, “and this region is obviously suited to solar, with which we have an enviable reputation for producing extremely efficient power conversion units and battery storage systems. To be able to deal directly with our clients – either existing or potential – at the summit is a commercial win for us and we’re all looking forward to the positive impact it will have on our industry over the coming years.”

Khalid Salem, the President of Mitsubishi Power Middle East and North Africa, one of the region’s best-known names in the energy supply sector, said: “Our company has been a key player in the MENA region for more than half a century and we fully support the ambitions of governments here in regard to energy transformation. We are entirely committed to creating more sustainable societies and being present at World Future Energy Summit gives us an important platform from which to exhibit and discuss our latest technologies and innovations for decarbonisation.”

World Future Energy Summit will provide an unmissable opportunity for exhibitors and delegates to meet, debate and collaborate with stakeholders, and spur business action on key clean energy and sustainable development initiatives throughout the Middle East and beyond. The event will take place at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from 17-19 January 2022.
