How businesses are stepping up to assist local hospitals during the pandemic

Health care professionals all over the world are working around the clock to keep citizens well during the COVID-19 pandemic. There are a few ways the community can aid these modern-day heroes.

As US nears 500,000 cases of the new covid virus, masks and materials to make them are needed everywhere. So are hand sanitizers and cleaning supplies.

Some are already helping, like the Lehigh Career & Technical Institute’s donation of 9,000 masks to regional health facilities; or Fanatics, an Easton-area maker of MLB jerseys, changing up operations to make pinstriped gowns and masks; and Arin Aghajani CEO of Latigo Media located in Malibu California  donated over 50,000 masks to local hospitals.

“We shifted some resources in the Latigo Media product development team to purchasing and donating masks to hospitals. We have donated over 50,000 masks for medical staff,” says Arin Aghajani.

We chose to focus on masks because we believed this was the best prevention tactic, says CEO Arin Aghajani.

According to scientists we’ve learned that as many as 40% of people infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 may have no symptoms. But when they talk, cough or sneeze, they can still spread the virus to others in the form of respiratory droplets expelled into the air. Those droplets evaporate into fine particles that may linger. The mask traps these larger droplets before they can evaporate. So, wearing a mask regularly can prevent spreading at the source even when we don’t know we are sick.

The best way to assist doctors, nurses, and other health care workers, according to state health officials, is to stay home and limit the spread of COVID-19.
