Wiferion Inductive Charging Transforming AGV Robotics

Julian Seume, Chief Marketing Officer at Wiferion discussed why logistics processes must include inductive charging in the recent issue of Robotics & Automation News. Read the full article here

According to Seume, inductive charging has numerous advantages in terms of data evaluation. The battery and charging system together form an overall solution for energy supply and are connected via a CAN interface. This means that all data on the energy level, operating times, and vehicle status can be recorded in real-time. Industry 4.0 applications such as condition monitoring or predictive maintenance can be executed.

“Whether driverless transport systems (AGVs), electric forklifts, or mobile robots (AMRs), the efficient use of industrial trucks is a decisive factor for competitiveness during ever- increasing cost pressures. The energy systems are being scrutinized and lithium-ion batteries are the preferred technology. The advantages versus lead-acid batteries (including the ability to recharge faster and more often) are obvious. Until now the full potential of storage technology has not been fully realized,” shared Seume.

Wireless battery charging systems and energy management solutions circumvent the limitations of conventional charging technologies. Based on the principle of magnetic induction, these technologies automatically transmit high currents fully to industrial trucks and AGVs during the ongoing logistics process.

About Wiferion

From inductive charging technology to energy management solutions, Wiferion offers a spectrum of products achieving efficient energy supply for industrial trucks, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), automated mobile robots (AMRs), and driverless transport systems. The technology also includes retrofit projects for existing fleets.

The flexible and scalable integration of Wiferion products means that users can sustainably increase utilization and fleet efficiency by up to 30%. Using lean manufacturing principles, Wiferion redefines the value stream mapping (VSM) by eliminating the unnecessary machine downtime and labor-intensive costs of plug-in charging.

From manufacturing to intralogistics, the Wiferion inductive battery charging system pioneered the etaLINK series which received prestigious awards such as the IFOY Award and “BEST PRODUCT” from LogiMAT.  Wiferion will participate at ProMatDX, appropriately titled “Power Up” from April 12 – 16, 2021.

Wiferion, the leading solution provider for mobile, wireless power supply of electric industrial vehicles, was founded in 2016 by four former employees of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems and one of the technology drivers in wireless charging. Wiferion is the foundation for a resource-saving and sustainable energy supply.
