India Happiness Festival 2021 Successfully Held Online on May 29, 2021

June 1, 2021 – Gurugram – In the midst of death, life persists; In the midst of untruth, truth persists; In the midst of darkness, light persists. – Mahatma Gandhi (Young India, Oct. 11, 1928)!

Happiness was never needed more than in the current times. The COVID crisis is challenging, and in the Gandhian spirit highlighted in the above quote, this festival shared some inputs on happiness to boost the immunity of people and to maintain a calm and positive outlook to take the best care of themselves and others. The registration money will be donated to COVID relief. It had two keynotes from well-known global happiness experts, one authority on Indian management and ancient wisdom, one leading happiness researcher in India, and two panel discussions from CEOs, senior entertainment and media experts.

The festival started with a keynote by the well known and leading researcher and trainer on happiness in India, Prof Rajesh Pillania, chief Mentor and Advisor, Happiness Strategy Foundation and Professor, MDI, Gurgaon. He shared five research-based happiness tips, including making happiness a choice, getting the beliefs right on happiness, gratitude, forgiveness and staying away from negative people.

It was followed by a keynote by learning from Bhutanese experiences in happiness keynote by Dr Saamdu Chetri, the first Executive Director, Gross National Happiness Centre, Bhutan. He shared the history of the Bhutanese experiences in happiness, and he shared a number of insights, including the need for compassion and gratitude in these times.

In the panel discussion on the role of workplace happiness experience sharing & learnings from industry leaders, six leaders from industry participated, namely,  Ashwini Tewari, Managing Director, State Bank of India; Anurag Srivastava, President and Country Head, Latin America, Aditya Birla Group; Pankaj Sinha, Managing Director, Sri Lanka and the Maldives, The Coca-Cola Company; Suresh Bharwani, Chairman& Managing Director, Jetking Infotrain Limited; Shalabh Saxena, MD & CEO, Bharat Financial Inclusion Limited; and, Rama Shankar Pandey, Managing Director, Hella India Lighting Ltd. It was moderated by Prof Rajesh K Pillania. The industry leaders gave a lot of interesting insights on workplace happiness such as a sense of purpose, celebrations, open communication, and also shared their personal happiness strategies such as yoga, meditation, physical fitness, learning from Brazil, writing poems, learnings from Gita and many more.

In the panel discussion on the role of Entertainment Industry & Media in happiness in India experience sharing & learnings from experts, six experts from industry participated namely Nitin Tej Ahuja, Chief Executive Officer, Producers Guild of India; Nandagopal Rajan, Editor New Media,  The Indian Express; Anurag Mishra, Senior Editor, Jagran New Media; RJ Aadi, Evening Drive Time Show, Radio City 91.1FM, Delhi; Rj Devangana, Red FM, Dehradun; and Mridu Bhandari, Editor, Special Projects, Network 18. It was moderated by Prof Rajesh K Pillania. The experts shared very interesting insights on the role of the entertainment and media industry, and there was a consensus of spreading happiness through the entertainment industry and also covering positive news besides the facts and negative information.

A Special Research Keynote was delivered by Prof. Ruut Veenhoven, Pioneer and World Authority on the Scientific Study of Happiness; Director, World Database of Happiness. He shared many research-based insights, including various happiness studies, the work in the world happiness database and the need for defining happiness is a better way.

A special keynote on learnings from Indian ancient wisdom was delivered by Padma Bhushan Dr M. B. Athreya, PhD (Harvard), Pioneer of the Indian Management Movement; and Ex-Professor London Business School & Ex-Professor IIM-Calcutta. He shared many insights from ancient Indian wisdom, including a focus on Dharma for sustaining happiness.

The participants asked a number of questions and participated in the festival with a lot of enthusiasm and appreciated this timely initiative by Happiness Strategy Foundation. This was the first edition of this annual India Happiness Festival, and it will be organized every year.
