Taizhou Xinghua Hairy Crab Selected as National Brand

Recently, the General Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced the list of excellent agricultural brand cultivation in 2022 (hereinafter referred to as “excellent cultivation”), and a total of 75 agricultural products brands were selected. Jiangsu’s Sheyang Rice, Yangshan Peach, Yixing Black Tea, Xinghua Hairy Crab and Xuyi Lobster are among the five regional public brands of agricultural products, accounting for one-fifth of the country’s total.

Xinghua Hairy Crab is a high-quality crab with proper weight. Xinghua, a water town with more than 10,000 rivers criss-crossing, densely covered lakes and abundant aquatic plants, is in the best location for the migration and breeding of Eriocheir sinensis in the Yangtze River, which is suitable for crab growth.

“Eight claws run wild with others stunned, and two claws dance with dignity.” Xinghua hairy crabs are famous for their green shell, white belly, golden claws, yellow hair, pincers and nimble feet. Their fat paste is full and pure, their meat is white and fresh, their crab yellow crystal is red and oily, and their entrance is fresh and sweet, which is very popular among consumers.

In recent years, Xinghua has gradually formed a unique ecological culture mode of river crabs, which includes water lifting, grass planting, snail feeding, sparse release and regulation. Ecological, three-dimensional and full-process technology is used to make hairy crabs grow at the most suitable density in a good environment. Also, we constantly revise and improve the series standards of industry technical specifications, and build a traceability platform for hairy crabs’ quality and safety, so that every Xinghua hairy crab with geographical indications can “stand the test”.

It is reported that the boutique cultivation brand in 2022 will be valid for 4 years from the date of publication. During this period, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs will implement dynamic management, strengthen tracking services, carry out effect evaluation, and organize field research and guidance from time to time. According to the requirements of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, all provincial agricultural and rural departments should combine local conditions, increase the support for brand cultivation of high-quality products, strengthen guidance services, listen to special reports every year, organize on-the-spot investigations, fully grasp the actual progress of brand building, form reproducible mature experience and quantifiable work results, and lead agricultural brand building to make new progress.
