LOS ANGELES, Calif. – July 19, 2023 – Shawn Anderson, 7-time motivational author and keynote speaker, is preparing for his 9th country-crossing trek by foot – this time, a coast-to-coast walk across Scotland. Starting on August 4th, Anderson’s upcoming trek again shines a light on “walking his talk” with authenticity.
Throughout his career, Anderson has embarked on transformative adventures in over 50 countries, including walking 550 miles across Spain in 27 days, completing a 750-mile journey around Shikoku, Japan, biking 4,000 miles solo across the United States twice, and conquering a 100-mile race.
At the age of 60, Anderson’s determination challenges views on age and limitations. He firmly believes that embracing fear and age only accelerate the process of growing old, and he remains committed to living adventures. Anderson shares, “If I act old, I grow old faster. If I think scared, I live scared. I choose to do neither.” Anderson continues, “The quality and adventure of my life has always been determined by my own vision and my willingness to take massive action on that vision. If I think I’m too old to live great adventures, then great adventures will no longer be lived. I’m going to keep living them.”
Apart from his adventurous endeavors, Anderson is a successful entrepreneur and the author of seven motivational books, including A Better Life: An Inspiring Story About Starting Over, The Four Fibs and SOAR to the Top! His passionate philosophy in “going the extra mile” includes the creation of “Extra Mile Day” – a day recognizing the capacity we each have to create positive change when we go the extra mile. On November 1, 2022, 512 mayors and cities made the unique declaration and recognized those in their local communities who were going the extra mile in volunteerism and service.
As Anderson embarks on his next adventure in Scotland, he encourages others not to be limited by age or societal expectations. He shares his resolute perspective, stating, “I’m aware my age is pushing into the higher numbers, but that doesn’t stop me one minute from being bold in my goals and effort. On a door at home, I’ve posted this note to myself: ‘Grow old. Don’t BE old.’ So yeah, I’m 60. But we only fade away if we let society think we’ve faded. And I’m not fading.”
