Art Hide, an Australian luxury rug brand, has collaborated with prolific New York interior designer Sasha Bikoff to create a new collection of rugs that combine Bikoff’s maximalist, colorful aesthetic with Art Hide’s signature craftsmanship.
The collaboration features six unique rug designs that draw inspiration from nature, music and a bohemian lifestyle. Each rug is handcrafted using premium, sustainably sourced cowhide. A vast array of styles feature in the collection, from geometric to abstract to whimsical.
For the brand campaign, Sasha envisioned a woodland scene with the colorful, maximalist Art Hide rugs in a natural environment to create a powerful visual narrative. A native West Australian bush setting was chosen to shoot the range, showcasing Art Hide’s brand heritage while highlighting the company’s natural leather materials, sustainability values and artisanal techniques.
Sasha said, “Art Hide and I really connect over our love and usage of color. Combining unexpected colors is something that has always excited me. When learning about the artisan construction of Art Hide rugs I started to think of patterns to patch the hides together and different arrangements of colors. That is where my mind started to drift to quilts and patchwork. I created two patchwork designs and the collection grew from There.
“The story didn’t start with your granny’s patchwork but rather with these psychedelic fashion driven patterns inspired by Dolce and Gabbana in the 90s and quilts from the 70’s hippie era. The patterns are modern, bold, geometric, and colorful,” she said.
Sasha then introduced Shibori to inject an exoticism from the east and highlight Art Hide’s inhouse dyeing process and the patterns it brings through different variations of indigo blues on a natural base.
“The collection started to take on a bohemian hippie 1970s Woodstock feeling and I was then inspired by nature to introduce more whimsical designs, such as the mushroom, the butterfly, and the woodlands.” she said.

Altogether the collection tells a story inspired by memories of a bygone era with a certain romanticism on living among nature and hand made textiles. It reflects the idea that nature is a universal inspiration no matter where you are because it impacts us all.
The collaboration between Art Hide and Bikoff marks the first time the brand has partnered with an outside designer. “We wanted to work with someone who shared our passion for creating unique, statement-making pieces,” said Kura Perkins, founder of Art Hide. “Sasha’s eye for color and pattern made her the perfect fit.”
The collaboration is also Art Hide’s first collection to utilize its new hide assembly technique, named Fusion, that does not rely on stitching panels together, thereby achieving a seamless finish along with the ability to create finer shapes.
Art Hide lab dipped 22 new colors for the Bikoff collection, further adding to their unsurpassed cowhide color range. Two vintage inspired wall tapestries and cushions complete the collection.
The collection is available on both Art Hide’s website and 1stDibs.
