Floppy 1.0, Korea’s First Global ‘Taste’ Convention for Street Culture a Resounding Success

From October 14th to 15th, 2023, in Gwangju DoTPlanner, led by Dohyun Kim and JiYunKim, successfully concluded the global convention “Floppy 1.0” in the Asia Culture Center. This event marked the first Korea’s global convention focused on street culture tastes, drawing over 500 participants from 20 countries and receiving enthusiastic responses.

Floppy 1.0 featured four main street culture themes: fashion, music, food, and talks. Renowned artists and brand directors representing various aspects of street culture, both locally and internationally, participated as speakers. The gathering of diverse figures from the street scene in South Korea’s inaugural street culture global convention generated significant buzz.

According to DoTPlanner, one of the standout aspects of “Floppy 1.0” was the popularity of the popup store brands. Brands with dedicated fan bases, such as THE STAR TEAM and PUNKANDYO, who were visiting Korea for the first time, provided a unique opportunity for consumers to interact directly with the founders, engage in conversation, obtain autographs, and capture memorable moments, turning the popup store experience into more than just a simple sales event. This led to networking among participants, fostering meaningful collaborations and brand entries in new regions.

The talk show segment was filled with insightful stories from leaders in global trends, featuring popular Korean brand WHYNOTUS Creative Director, Darami Jeong, and Japanese artist IBUKI, along with lifestyle magazine ‘eyesmag’, and subculture magazine Visla Magazine, which spotlights independent artists from different cities, both domestic and international.

Music performances by artists like Balming Tiger, CHS, Pretty Sick, and Ruby Sparks, combined with a variety of street food options like TACO STAND from Yongsan, Seoul, and Café Saru, created a multisensory experience for visitors.

Floppy 1.0, organized for the first time this year, was co-hosted by DoTPlanner and the Gwangju Tourism Organization, with sponsorship from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korea Tourism Organization, and Vans Korea. Dohyun Kim, Co-CEO of DoTPlanner, expressed her delight, saying, “The Floppy 1.0 aimed to establish a street culture community, and it seems like we’ve provided the platform for that. I’m pleased. We will continue our efforts to position Floppy as the global representative convention for street culture, where people can freely share and enjoy their tastes.”
