A Christmas market edition of a small group grand train tour of Switzerland is coming up in December 2024
ECHO Rails & Trails has recently experienced major shifts. Previously based in Los Altos, California, this tour company specializing in hiking and rail tours has undergone a merger with My-Mountains, a US and Swiss based tour operator specializing in ski holidays. Now, ECHO Rail & Trails, is getting ready to expand its offer to a winter edition of its renowned grand train tour of Switzerland. The new tour will focus on an immersive winter Swiss Alps and Christmas Market experience.
ECHO Rails & Trails has been running small group tours and personalized holidays by rail in Switzerland since 2011. Previously, the company focused solely on summer holiday offers, with most tours taking place between the months of June and September. Now, ECHO Rails & Trails is ready to take its guests on a snow-bound adventure to showcase the spectacular beauty of the Swiss Alps in winter.
“Switzerland is a well-established winter destination boasting many world-class ski resorts. Zermatt, St. Moritz, and Jungfrau Region are just a few worth mentioning. But Switzerland in winter offers much more than pristine slopes and top-notch skiing infrastructure,” says Andrea Caspani, the managing director of ECHO Rails & Trails. The allure of the Swiss Alps in wintertime is undeniable, with wooden villages covered in thick layers of snow, cozy restaurants, and horse-pulled sleigh rides awaiting guests.
What is more, in December, Switzerland becomes a true Christmas fairyland. Christmas Markets, or Weihnachstmarkts, take over the main squares in cities and villages alike, featuring animated nativities, rich decorations, Christmas music, and wooden stalls selling everything from hot beverages to handmade gift ideas. The new 9-day winter grand train tour of Switzerland will combine the most spectacular Christmas markets in the country, such as those in Basel, Bern, Montreux, and Zurich, with visiting iconic winter resorts, such as Zermatt. The tour will be launched in January 2024, with the first tour dates available in December 2024.
A grand train tour of Switzerland is a fantastic way to get to know the country through its scenic rail routes, leading to popular holiday resorts in all four language regions. From Glacier Express to the Bernina route and GoldenPass Line, a grand train tour of Switzerland allows people to explore the German, French, Romanic, and Italian-speaking parts of the country. Such tours are possible thanks to Switzerland’s world-class public transport network, including trains, boats, funiculars, buses, and cable cars.
ECHO Rails & Trails prides itself on offering a year-round adventure with grand train tours of Switzerland. “Personalization and authenticity are our two main goals,” says Caspani. Thanks to small groups, local guides, and alpine hotels, the company offers an immersive adventure into Swiss nature, history, and culture.
