Australian Retailers Get Set For Massive Black Friday

It’s that time of the year again – the Holiday season is almost here and the biggest sales event of the year, Black Friday, is just around the corner but this year is set to be a little different. With COVID still having global effect, many retailers are bracing for an online surge.

“This year’s Black Friday will look a little different, we’ve been offering shoppers the flexibility to get their shopping done online before picking up in-store, over the phone or even on mobile and we know that many other retailers will be doing the same.” says Luke Clarke, National Marketing Manager of Australian mattress and bedding retailer Bedshed.

The Black Friday sales event has already seen a great deal of evolution over the last few years, with online deals and Cyber Monday sales increasingly becoming a focus, but the pandemic is set to drive that trend forward at a breakneck pace with more online shopping deals from more retailers than ever before expected.

This will mark a big change to what Australian’s have grown used to over the past 5 years.

“We have grown accustomed to taking part in the Black Friday shopping tradition and every year we’re treated to scenes of bustling stores as shoppers compete for the best deals, it will be interesting to see what happens in 2020.”

Last year was the biggest ever sales event for many Australian retailers, with almost 20 percent of Australian households buying something during the sales. With close to 200,000 Australians shopping online for the first time in 2020, many retailers are preparing for this year to be even bigger despite the pandemic.

However, whilst in-store shopping is slowly returning, retailers are keen to remain conscious of social distancing and avoid the large crowds from previous years. With contactless collection and delivery options and other flexible shopping options key to successfully navigating the pandemic.

In recent years Black Friday has begun to rival Boxing Day as the most important sales event on the Australian shopping calendar. And even with nervousness around in-store shopping, consumers can still expect to find some of the best prices and deals for the year from large retailers both in-store and online on offer.

“Black Friday and Cyber Monday offer a great opportunity to save on some of the big ticket items on your wishlist,” says Luke Clarke.

With more Australian retailers jumping onboard than ever before, savvy shoppers will find an enormous range of heavily discounted items available to them. Just preceding Christmas, the sale has become popular with Christmas shoppers hoping to cross gifts off their to-do list for the year.

As Black Friday sales are set to kick off on November 27th (or even earlier), we’re being encouraged to think about ourselves and others’ safety when shopping for that incredible bargain.
