True story What Death Leaves Behind gets bigscreen release this fall
Award-winning independent film released by Artist Rights Distribution

Based on a chilling true story, director Scott A.Hamilton’s “What Death Leaves Behind” tells of a man who, after a kidney transplant, experiences reoccurring nightmares he believes to be visions of his donor’s violent murder, sending him on a dark path of vengeance, leading to an unbearable truth.

The screenplay for the award-winning film, premiering in Los Angeles on September 11 before moving onto other markets including Las Vegas and Detroit, was inspired by a real event that happened to someone close to the film’s executive producer and investor.

Rachel K.Ofori, the sole female producer on the film, said in a recent interview that a cousin of Chad Morton’s “went through 7 years of dialysis and started having repetitive nightmares after finally receiving a kidney transplant. How he originally explained those dreams to Chad gave us the basis for the story.”

Ofori, who co-wrote the script with Hamilton, Chad Morton, and Nico Giampietro, said some elements in the film came together in production.

“The nonlinear part was not on the page. Scott Hamilton came up with that during production and we altered the script to make that possible. Erin O’Brien and Johnny Alonso had a base script but improved most of their dialogue to build to the emotion necessary to achieve the wordless dream sequences that send chills down everyone’s spines. There were improvisational moments with Vincent Young (who plays Andrew in the film) that were just better than we could have ever envisioned. So, we plan and write like the film depends on it but then it’s really just trusting the actors to bring their magic. I can’t cast a Vincent Young, or Alexandra Tydings or Christopher Mann to read a script. They’ve been acting since before we were in the industry. We just trusted them enough to let any changes happen–and when it happened it was beautiful.”

Christopher Mann, Vincent Young, Erin O’Brien, Johnny Alonso, Alexandra Tydings, Shaira Barton, Amanda Diaz, Kelly Dowdle, and Khalil McMillan star in the film.
