Jay M Agoado, the founder of the Project Kids’ Cancer Cure Guild, is excited to announce that On The Go Moving & Storage has agreed to be a clinical trial sponsor for 2020. The sponsorship benefits the Cancer Clinical Trials Fund at Seattle Children’s Hospital (SCH). The Cancer Cure Guild fund bridges the gap between the $2000 per trial provided by the federal government and the $6,000 average cost of a clinical trial for each child. Project Kids has held two events to date, raising a current total of nearly $180,000 – enough to fund 45 cancer clinical trials.
Seattle Children’s has been ranked in the top five pediatric cancer hospitals in the nation for several years. The facility is very fortunate to have clinical trials that drive national strategy for pediatric cancer treatment being developed right here in the Seattle area. The oncology team at SCH has well over 100 open clinical trials with 600-plus enrollments each year. The trials cover all types of cancer and are provided to children from all over the United States and abroad.
The statistics related to pediatric cancer are sobering. Every day 43 children are diagnosed with cancer. 20% of children diagnosed will die within five years. Children’s cancer affects all genders, ethnic, and socio-economic groups. Pediatric cancers differ biologically from adult cancers; thus, they cannot share treatment protocols. Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease among children in the United States.

A spokesperson for Project Kids explained, “These statistics are why we are excited to have On The Go Moving join in our efforts. Each dollar raised through sponsorship goes directly toward the clinical trials and NOT toward the event itself. Our auctions and other monies raised at our Night Out For Good event on March 21, 2020, will also go toward trials, and the ticket price will go toward covering the cost of the event.”
“Your gift to the Project Kids’ Cancer Cure Guild,” he went on to say, “will open up lifesaving doors for patients at Seattle Children’s. Clinical trials create better care and cures. It is how promising ideas are evaluated and tested before becoming treatments that save lives. Your investment in all types of cancer clinical trials enables us to continue advancing cancer treatment.”
The Project Kids’ Cancer Cure Guild was established in February 2017 to support Cancer Clinical Trials at Seattle Children’s. Seattle Children’s is a member of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), an international organization of cancer specialists, supported by the National Cancer Institute, that works together to research, prevent, treat, and cure childhood cancer.
The average cost to conduct a clinical trial is $6,000 per patient, but the funding from the National Cancer Institute is only $2,000 per patient. Seattle Children’s Cancer Clinical Trials fund helps fill that gap to cover the cost of studies at Seattle Children’s for all types of cancer – so every child can benefit from the best therapies available. The Cancer Clinical Trials Fund is managed by Dr. Doug Hawkins, who leads Children’s cancer care and research team.
