FindLiveStreams.com announced today its #PandemicPerformances initiative to preserve the livestream performances that took place during the pandemic and is seeking help from musicians.
FindLiveStreams.com was established at the beginning of the pandemic, when many street musicians were struggling to make ends meet.
Although musicians had many avenues to stream their performances, including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, there wasn’t one directory for music lovers to find them. FindLiveStreams.com aimed to help them gain traction and promoted thousands of livestreams.
“The scope of the site quickly mushroomed as more musicians — from street buskers to famous artists — began to stream their performances from home,” said founder Devlin Corrigan.
Some artists performed to support charities. Others performed to support their crew. And many performed to support themselves when their ability to earn a living through traditional means was shut down. Whatever the motive, FindLiveStreams.com promoted their livestreams and urged viewers to support the musicians and their causes.
Famous musicians like Lady Gaga, Lizzo, Elton John, the Rolling Stones, Chris Martin, Norah Jones, David Guetta, Melissa Etheridge, QuestLove and Yo-Yo Ma streamed their performances to support relief efforts. They all raised the spirits of music enthusiasts amid the lockdown.
Livestream performances have been one of the silver linings of the COVID-19 lockdown, and Corrigan believes it is important to preserve them so they can be found easily in the future.
“As we head out of the pandemic and in-person performances return, it’s time to convert the site into an archive to capture the rich history of these livestreams and preserve the positive actions musicians took to help others during the pandemic,” Corrigan explained.
Users of the site can now search by artist, genre, or charity to find their favorite musicians’ streams. There are now hundreds of performances in the archive.
Musicians can share their livestreams here, or they can simply use #PandemicPerformances when they upload their livestream performances, so they can be included in the archive.
