Chris Torres Hosting Online Chess Tournament For India COVID Relief On May 7, 2021
With the spike of COVID-19 cases in India, Daily Chess Musings founder and renowned scholastic chess coach Chris Torres has organized an online blitz tournament with $300 in available prizes. The entry fee is a donation to a charitable organization that is helping India.

The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has recently spiked in several countries, but the pandemic has run rampant in India, where they are averaging around 300,000 additional cases every single day. As a result, the country has been in need of immense financial and medical aid, and a number of organizations have stepped up to provide it.

Daily Chess Musings founder and chess professional Chris Torres is engaged with a number of students in India, and this cataclysmic COVID-19 surge has spurred him to action. Not only has he volunteered to teach chess to all who wish to learn via his website, but he has also started to organize a unique fundraiser in order to help India.

On Friday, May 7, 2021, Torres is hosting the We Love India Blitz Chess Extravaganza. This Online Chess Tournament is going to be held from 4 PM to 7 PM Pacific Standard Time (PST). Every match will be a five minute blitz match using the chess.com platform.

The website explains that “Fair Play and good tournament etiquette will be strictly enforced. Any players suspected of cheating or behaving inappropriately will be immediately disqualified. All judgements by the Daily Chess Musings staff will be final.”

In order to participate, chess players need to do three things – fill out the entry form, join the Daily Musings Club on Chess.com, and donate to a charitable organization that is helping India with their COVID-19 outbreak.

The Daily Chess Musings website offers several organizations to consider with a charitable donation including Care India, PATH, UNICEF, Youth Feed India and Helping Hands Charitable Trust, and the Indian Red Cross Society. They also provide an “Other” category so that participants can choose their own charity to support. All that participants need to provide is their receipt number and how much they donated in order to register for the tournament.

At the end of the tournament, there will be a raffle. A participant gets a raffle ticket with their initial registration, but for every $10 that a participant donates, they will receive an extra raffle ticket. One additional raffle ticket will be awarded for each victory during the event.

All of the information regarding the We Love India Chess Extravaganza, including suggested charities, rules, registration forms, and Terms and Disclaimers, can be found on the main page of the Daily Chess Musing website, found at https://dailychessmusings.com/
