Case Engine, the leading specialist legal digital marketing company, has discovered from extensive research that the COVID-19 pandemic may have changed the legal system forever. The global pandemic transformed the vast majority of businesses and forced company owners to re-evaluate how they conducted their business, both physically and strategically. However, few people would have ever considered the legal sector to change what, after all, has been their method of working for hundreds of years.
As a company always at the cutting edge of digital marketing, Case Engine wanted to investigate how, if, at all, COVID-19 had impacted attorney firms across the country. They set out to interview as many lawyers as possible all across the country and discovered a similar pattern emerging everywhere – digitalization. One of the lawyers that Case Engine interviewed was Ivan M. Diamond, owner and founder of The Law Offices of Ivan M. Diamond.
When asked how the pandemic had affected the legal system in New York, Ivan Diamond said, “It’s a mixed bag, things that involve document production, document exchange, have definitely become much easier and more streamlined. An increased use of email, which, let’s be honest, is something that probably should have been done by the whole court system well before COVID, is now the de facto method of file exchange. COVID has kind of forced the court system to implement more virtual electronic platforms. Unfortunately, when it comes to in-person encounters, things are much more complex. My understanding is the number of trials that the court system is doing, especially in the boroughs where I practice, is at a much lower frequency than it was pre-COVID, for understandable reasons. The entire court system could take a few years to catch up once things are completely back to normal.”
The challenge, it seems, for the legal system is to try and come up with a system to enable trials to take place virtually, but with the confidence of all parties concerned. Many attorneys are wary of this, particularly when it comes to jury trials, as it would be very difficult to build a relationship with the jury.
The Law Offices of Ivan M. Diamond is a locally owned and operated family business based in New York. Since 1995, Mr. Diamond has assisted thousands of victims of negligence and malpractice in obtaining significant cash awards for their pain, suffering, and other damages. He focuses his practice solely in the fields of personal injury, negligence, and medical malpractice law: this way, he is able to bring the highest levels of experience, knowledge, tenacity, courtroom skills, and real New York “street smarts” to every case he handles. His successful trials, settlements, and appeals have been published in various legal journals and other publications.
