Expanding human habitat and unorganized urbanization are directly affecting the compression of Jungles and challenging the ecosystem. There are numerous reports about the wildlife intruding into human habitat and posing threat to each other. Leopards too are now commonly traced into the Urban World. Tushar Yadav, an avid wildlife photographer, and volunteer environmentalist has carried out a study of these Urban Leopards. They are quasi-residents with human dominated habitat and have adapted themselves to the best of their survival. Tushar, through his lens, has covered these Magnificent Cats in his recently published Coffee Table book – Urban Leopards, Adapting Coexistence. The book has been published by “White Falcon Publishing”.
The book, Urban Leopards, Adapting Coexistence has been broadly covered in three parts. In the first part of the book, the author has covered the stories of his encounters with these wild cats as they naturally happened, in a humorous way, duly supported with high resolution photographs of each incident. The author has named these leopards randomly (Bhola, Shatru, Golu, Sweetie, Rani, Max, Raju, Chintu ,etc). He relates to these wild cats just like members of his own family. Annotated Photographs of these beautiful creatures cannot be compared with any other clicked in a wildlife sanctuary or a zoological garden. In the next part of the book, the author has briefly covered, God’s Own Country, Sahyadri, and Western Ghats of Maharashtra, where he has carried out the study.
Jaw dropping landscapes covered in the book will surely encourage the readers to be a part of this Heavenly Abode during their next vacations. In the last part of the book, the author has carried out an analysis of the adaptations made by these Urban Leopards for their survival in human dominated habitat. This part is well illustrated with photographs. The author has carried out an intense research about their behavioral changes. A comparative analysis about the leopards has been done where conventional traits vis-à-vis adaptations have been discussed in detail. In this part, an example of a female leopard has been quoted where she has given birth to four cubs inside a village hut.
