Premier Catch Partners with OmegaQuant for Seafood Month

Premier Catch, a direct-to-consumer seafood company out of Seattle, Washington, has partnered with OmegaQuant, the creators of the Omega-3 Index test. Millions of people have used the company’s omega-3 tests to assess whether they are getting enough of these important nutrients from their diets.

The Omega-3s EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) are fatty acids essential to preventing and managing heart disease, as well as boosting brain health. In a study led by Aleix Sala-Vila, PhD, research showed that people with a higher omega-3 DHA level were 49% less likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease than those with lower levels.

Founder of OmegaQuant, Dr. Bill Harris, invented the Omega-3 Index test in 2004 as a way for researchers, doctors, and the public to assess the nutritional status of omega-3s EPA and DHA in the blood. However, during the past two years, OmegaQuant expanded its test range to include vitamin D, B12 and HbA1c tests.

“Our goal is to offer the highest quality fatty acid analytical services to researchers and to provide simple tests of nutritional status to consumers,” says Kristina Harris Jackson, PhD, RD, Director of Research, OmegaQuant. “Our ultimate purpose is to advance the science and use of nutrients to improve health. In partnering with Premier Catch, we support their efforts in providing the highest quality of wild and sustainable fish rich not only in omega-3s, but other important nutrients like vitamin D.”

“Adding more wild seafood to your diet is the best way to improve heart health, decrease inflammation, and boost brain function,” says co-founder Ashley Besecker, “It’s also a great, high-quality source of omega-3, which can be found in all our products.”

The American Heart Association recommends that everyone eats fish at least twice a week. Salmon, tuna, and cod are all omega-3-rich options, all available through Premier Catch.

“Wild-caught, sustainable fish have the ability to feed us for generations,” said co-founder Joci Besecker, “They have a more diverse diet than farmed fish and lower levels of certain contaminants due to their wild habitat. This makes eating enough fish to see the benefits of omega-3 safer and easier.”

Founded in 2020, Premier Catch is women-owned and family-operated by sisters-in-law Joci and Ashley Besecker, bringing sustainable, wild seafood from Alaska and the Pacific Northwest to dinner tables across the country. Their premium products are carefully processed to make prepping and consuming seafood as easy as possible.
