NYC Online Retailer Makes Underground Art Accessible

NYC-Based Online Retailer, Milton Wes, Offers Accessible Art

New York, NY –Corey Wesley, Harlem resident, self-taught artist and entrepreneur, embarks on a thriving art retail business that breathes life back into the unsung heroes of underground art. Wesley, also featured in Harlem World Magazine, is the curator of some of the most profound pieces in the vast world of street art today, giving genuine art lovers a place to purchase authentic art that is based on creative expression, heartfelt emotion and inspiration.

In the fall of 2021, following a dreadful and horrific hook up experience, Wesley found himself faced with ludacris and false legal allegations that threatened to ruin his livelihood, entrepreneurial endeavors, professional status, and everything that he had worked so hard to attain. However, instead of allowing this unfortunate incident to control his life’s narrative and consume his world, Wesley chose to turn a harrowingly negative experience into a positive one, by reflecting back on his youth; he fondly recalled his happiest and productive outlet of self-expression – ART.

New York City has always been the ideal backdrop for the creative minds of the many talented graffiti artists whose works adorn the city’s 5 boroughs.  The history of street art dates back to the 60’s and 70’s, but became much more prevalent when the Hip Hop era was born in the early 80’s. Wesley says, “I can remember riding the NYC subway as a teenager, admiring the many colorful designs that would go by in a flash, as the train would burst from inside and outside the tunnel, from one station to another.” Looking back on those times, Wesley relishes in sheer awe of the exterior and interior walls of the train stations that silently and beautifully screamed the bravery and spontaneity of the artists, who spent endless hours perfecting their craft in their tags, using the subway train cars and stations as their canvas.

In the aftermath of emotional distress, and undo pain and suffering, Wesley’s outlook and vision became unequivocally clear, and he discovered an innovative and unique way to curate underground graffiti street designs, as well as many other genres of artistic expression, by introducing them to his own compelling and personal life’s canvas…Milton Wes!

Wesley started Milton Wes out of his Harlem apartment after reflecting on his childhood memories of growing up around art. “I want to create an outlet for artists that don’t have one.” Wesley says. Wesley is looking forward to his ultimate goal of hiring local artists and eventually providing them with a space to call their own — The Milton Wes Art Gallery, to be located in Harlem.

Wesley envisions that this brick-and-mortar art gallery will be so much more than a place where artists sell their work. The art gallery will create jobs and sponsor local events to foster opportunities for residents who are struggling with poverty, abuse, and lack the resources to sell their art, as well as the opportunity for nurturing art programs for kids and teens, to provide them with a safe environment, in order to keep their creativity alive.

As so articulately and eloquently stated, by writer Wm. Joseph Nieters in the online edition of Philosophy Now. “Art is an expression of our thoughts, emotions, intuitions, and desires, but it is even more personal than that: it’s about sharing the way we experience the world, which for many is an extension of personality. It is the communication of intimate concepts that cannot be faithfully portrayed by words alone. And because words alone are not enough, we must find some other vehicle to carry our intent.”

Wesley is a firm believer and says that, “we all have the intrinsic power to make a difference in one way or another – no matter how small it may seem. We just need to keep striving one colorful minute at a time.”
