Viila and the Doomsday Affair by Roger Danchik Offers an Original Twist to the Adventure Fantasy Genre

Roger Danchik’s Viila and the Doomsday Affair fuses biblical legend with adventure fantasy to create a one-of-a-kind, laugh-out-loud story full of odd characters, Jewish lore, and two of the longest, most hopeless love stories in this or any eternity.

Roger Danchik is the author of Viila and the Doomsday Affair, a rollicking ride into the unknown about an unlikely group of allies who set out to save the universe. Designed to make people laugh, have a good time, and give them something to think about, Roger’s book is a truly original piece of art, similar to his artistic pursuits in other mediums.

A multi-faceted talent, Roger has written plays including the Princess and the Ogre; a podcast called It’s Hard To Be Creative When You’re Dead; a musical based on The Scarecrow called Lord RavensBane with about 25 songs; designed a few low budget movies including The Legend of Lucy Keyes, and more.

Roger studied theater in Undergraduate School and attended Brandeis Graduate School as a playwriting major. His diverse work experience ranges from working in theaters, being a movie script reader for Scout Productions, and touring with rock’n’roll artists including David Bowie, Chicago, The Rolling Stones, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Queen and others.

This one-on-one interview shares Roger Danchik’s background and experience in writing Viila and the Doomsday Affair.

Tell us about Viila and the Doomsday Affair.

Viila and the Doomsday Affair tells the story of a mission to save the universe by a very unusual group–a rabbi and his clueless son, a beautiful sort of vampire, a sex obsessed teraphim, Barnabas the demon, Queen Pharaoh the original cat and Jasper the belly crawler. They must save the world we know–even with all its flaws–before the new eternity starts. To do that, they must reach the Hidden Room in the Sacred Mount by passing three impossible tasks. Plus, they must battle the Master of Death’s acolytes, escape an inescapable philosophical trap, and meet the deadly Angel of the Three D’s — Death, Destruction and Dismal Doom.

While our heroes stumble along, various other inbred supernatural societies also start traveling to the Hidden Room by a myriad of unknowable pathways. Those who survive the journey will be able to battle for the right to be the new Gods of our world.

Filled with odd situations, wry humor, unusual characters, amazing romances, and many laugh-out-loud moments, Viila and the Doomsday Affair is a fun read for those who like to laugh, learn and love.

What inspired you to write Viila and the Doomsday Affair?

I want people to laugh, enjoy themselves, and be filled with a sense of wonder.

By writing a fantasy with remarkable characters, I was able to create my own escape for readers—one that would share laughter, great love stories and imaginative situations.

Through my writing, I hope to take readers on an epic journey through the pages of my books.

How did your background and experience influence your writing?

My first produced writing was in children’s theater.

The joy of the captivated children with the characters and situations on stage was both memorable and energizing.

So, when I started my novel, I wanted to be able to amuse and captivate my readers, just as I used to enchant the children. The world certainly needs more laughter!

What is one message you would like readers to remember?

Viila and the Doomsday Affair has something for everyone – humor, love, adventure, and tidbits of Hebrew and other folklore that readers may find fascinating.

My ultimate goal is for readers to feel that their life is richer and more enjoyable because they read the book.
